Clinical spectrum

Our clinic offers the entire spectrum of neuroradiological examinations. These include diagnostic procedures, but also therapeutic interventions in minimally invasive, interventional neuroradiology. Interdisciplinary cooperation with highly specialized centers in the neighboring disciplines of neurosurgery, neurology and epileptology are crucial for the success of the therapy.

Specialist areas of our clinic are examinations of the brain, the head-neck region, the spine including the spinal cord as well as the peripheral nervous system. These place particularly high demands on the device technology as well as on the medical and technical staff. The most modern technology available in medical imaging is used for this in the Clinic for Neuroradiology at the University hospital Bonn. The investigations are planned, carried out and evaluated by experts with many years of experience.

At the Clinic for Neuroradiology we carry out highly specialized diagnostics using modern radiological sectional imaging methods. Special imaging methods such as computer tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), sonography, angiography or myelography allow the diagnosis of diseases of the central nervous system - i.e. of the brain and spinal cord - as well as the peripheral ones - i.e. outside of the brain and spinal cord - nervs. Other diagnostic methods allow the spine and the head and neck region to be assessed. Thanks to these modern procedures, neuroradiologists provide accurate images in diagnostics, so that brain interventions such as epilepsy operations and tumor removal can be carried out with a high degree of safety across disciplines. The Clinic for Neuroradiology ensures the complete radiological and neuroradiological care of inpatients and outpatients in the neurocentre (pre-surgical epilepsy diagnostics, stroke diagnostics and therapy, interventional neuroradiology) as well as special neuroradiological diagnostics.

Conventional X-ray examinations are mainly used in neuroradiology for diseases, malformations and injuries to the bony skull and spine. A high-performance Spectral-CT device is used at our clinic, which is particularly suitable for neuroradiological applications. We offer highly specialized magnetic resonance imaging procedures. Several MRI scanners with a particularly high field strength (3 Tesla) are used. The magnetic field strength of 1.5 Tesla is also available.

MRI and CT examinations provide much more detailed results in the form of sectional images or three-dimensional representations. They are used in neuroradiology, among other things, for the diagnosis of stroke, tumors, diseases of the central nervous system, injury of the cranium, and diseases of the spine (see spectrum of treatment). For this we meet particularly high requirements in the area of device technology and the specialized further training of our medical and medical-technical staff.
